NEVER USE PLASTIC OR NON-METAL FLEXIBLE DUCT

Flexible plastic dryer ducts--including those with a reflective metallic finish that has the appearance of foil--create fire risks. Prone to sagging, uneven surfaces, and often installed with excessive bends, these ducts collect lint which can be ignited by the dryer. Since the duct material is combustible, these ducts will cause the fire to spread quickly. ( Yes, even the faux foil ducts burn, see for yourself: https://youtu.be/uG5llMyyScA )

Flexible ducts should never be installed in inaccessible areas because they cannot be cleaned, inspected, or easily replaced. Acceptable ducts are specified by the appliance manufacturer, and generally consist of 100 mm ø rigid aluminum or galvanized steel, with only rigid ducts installed in concealed spaces such as wall cavities. Exhaust runs should be as straight and short as possible.

Maytag has some excellent exhaust requirements listed in their instruction manuals, for example: http://www.maytag.ca/digitalassets/MDE2400AZW/Installation%20Instruction_EN.pdf
