Incorrect slope and the accumulation of debris will cause standing water in eavestrough. This condition may go unnoticed until it causes other, more significant, problems. Fortunately, regular inspections and inexpensive repairs/corrections can avoid these issues.

Standing water increases the weight load which causes gutters to sag and pull away from the eave. This will damage the hardware that secures the gutters to the fascia, and water may seep past the hangers, damaging the wood substrate. Eventually the gutter will sag, compounding the problem, and collapse. Damage to the structure, however, is not the only concern. The water and organic debris is a breeding ground for pests such as mosquitoes, and poor flow will contribute to effects of ice damming.
